Please sir, can I have some Spore
During my trip I finally got a chance to play around with the Spore creature creator demo, although I had to wait til I made it to the UK, as the hotel wifi in Pittsburgh wouldn’t move beyond a crawl. Jey has already made some seriously impressive creatures, and I fear how strong they’ll be once they’re inserted into the Spore universe and told to attack other planets. I tried to not look at his before creating my own, though, so as not to be influenced by their designs.
While I was making mine, we realized that the scroll wheel enlarges bits and bobs (something which isn’t mentioned in the documentation or instructions, apparently) so Jey created a monstrosity covered with giant eyeballs. I settled for adjusting the little flippy bits that you can attach for decoration.
Here are my guys:

Mr. Backwards
And here is an example of the type of creature Jey likes to make… this one is named “Snuggles”:
He wants to play…with your insides.

Spore Wars
Ever since Kotaku leaked a version of the creature creator from Spore, I’ve seen little monsters popping up all over the place.
(As an aside, can you believe they got this list of people to create monsters? Beyond its sheer targeted, traffic-leading marketing brilliance, I am equal parts intrigued and terrified…but am also of course eagerly anticipating the results. Can David Lynch create something more disturbing than the baby in Eraserhead? Only time will tell.)
The leaked version of the creator is Windows-only, so I’ll have to wait til June 17 like the other Mac-owning plebes. To tide me over, Jey created this thoughtful portrait of me as a Spore creature:
Apparently among its many useful abilities are singing, gyration, and spitting acid out of the “gobstoppers” on its chest. Thank you, darling. It’s like looking into a mirror.
