South Park’s boys are always playing video games, so it was no surprise to see Kyle, Kenny and Cartman jamming to Lady Gaga on Rock Band in last night’s new episode, “Whale Whores.” But what makes it extra-special is the Eric Cartman from-the-diaphragm-spin on “Poker Face” (including the bit of anti-dolphin improv at the end). People in the US who pre-ordered Scribblenauts at GameStop were the lucky recipients (if they were still in stock) of the incredibly cute and awesome Maxwell Rooster Hat, as seen here:

Funny hats are always a key ingredient to WIN, and if I’m honest, picking up the hat was just as exciting as collecting the game itself. Which I was pretty dang excited about. The great thing is, the chickenhat is good quality — and stretches enough to fit onto my giant noggin.

While using Monkey Island to point out the absurdities and fallibility of the alarmist 24-hour news cycle is cute, the most impressive thing as far as I’m concerned is the voice acting for the Pirate Leaders in the Spanish version of The Secret of Monkey Island (shown in the video). That’s some heavy-duty pirating.

And as the Tales of Monkey Island Blog points out, the reporter also failed to notice the XD smiley in the recipe title. N00b.

Check out 8-bit Trip, a very cool tribute to the pixel-y games we all know and love, rendered in incredible Lego stopmotion. It took 1500 hours to create, which is probably the same amount of hours I’ve accumulated playing Tetris.

In honor of purchasing the game last night, I have set my desktop wallpaper to one of the promotional images kindly provided by IGN. Grab one here if you’re similarly inclined.

The real dilemma now, of course, is when to buy Fat Princess for PS3 — before or after the Layton cartridge arrives?

Have: copies of Henry Hatsworth (stalled by unlocking the hardest bonus level in the game and having to replay other levels to open normal path) and Elite Beat Agents, both at approx. 50% completion

Want: Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box

Dare I indulge in Layton and return later to my current plays? Or should I be true to the two cartridges I’ve got in rotation now?

Spotted these excellent photos by Hamburg photographer Partrick Runte of video games brought to life and figured it was as good an excuse as any to update this old thing again.

This shot especially speaks to me, as it reminds me of Pac-Manhattan, “a large-scale urban game that utilizes the New York City grid to recreate the 1980’s video game sensation Pac-Man.”

Also, the figures in the Tetris photo (specifically the square and the L shape in the foreground) look like an 8-bit version of Romeo and Juliet, discovering that they fit together despite their differences, while their various-shaped family and friends look on.
