FTLR – Monica, Jorge and the Codex
July 28, 2008
On July 16, Ariadne/Alex wrote a post about Noriko’s brother Kentaro, wondering why he joined TheO, why TheO send Markus instead of Mauritz, and whether or not we can trust Markus, even though he’s come to support our cause on his own. She also mentioned a puzzle that may be already before us, hiding in plain sight:
Eli always says that to plan our future, we only have to look toward our past. So I have a feeling there’s someone who can help us figure this out. Someone from our past.
Something happened to the original lost ring team back in 1920, after they wrote The Lost Ring Codex. Someone stayed behind to found The Opposition. But which traveler was it, and why? Are there any hints in the Codex?
Monica is sophrosune. And her great uncle knew one of the original travelers. She might not know any more than we do, but she can listen to our theories and use her strength to help us judge the situation. If you have ideas for who to trust and what to do about Kentaro and Markus, write her at monica.alt77@gmail.com.
I’d noticed some strange things in the Codex before, including subtle hints about which world each athlete originated from (something I thought was related to the pancosmologizer puzzle), so I was glad to have an excuse to skim the documents again.
This time, something popped out at me: “We did not meet anyone from our own parallel selves in this Gaea world. None of us would do that, except Jorge, who remembers his own home as a Gaea world.”
…which would mean all sorts of things. Gaea worlds are uncommon in the first place, and prone to destruction – so perhaps their mission failed between the writing of the Codex in 1918, and TheO’s appearance in 1920, and Jorge was so deeply affected by the destruction of his home world and family that he vowed to never allow it to happen again.
There are other possibilities, as well. This world could have featured an iteration of Jorge’s friends and family (as the Codex mentions in Chapter 24). It seems improbable that our world is the exact “no” side of that branch (which would mean that there was already a Jorge here), but maybe this is why he trusted Monica’s uncle – could he have recognized him from his own world?
I submitted these ideas to Monica, because she has a personal connection to Jorge through her uncle, and might be able to discover more information about what’s going on, and she replied:
Hola Laura,

————————–Hello Laura,
thank you very much for your reflection. I find it very interesting and I must confess that I have chills. I think it has brought a hint disturbing because it is something that differentiates Jorge of the other 6. Can you think of a concept by which someone in that situation I would like to establish Theo? What happens is you some idea about any clue that could search the office of my uncle grandfather? I do not know if something else is there to look for …
I wrote a post on my blog summarizing the ideas that people sent me, if it can help you.
Thank you for your help!
Monica
(The blog post is here.)
I sent back a few suggestions, including documents to look for should she have another opportunity to visit her uncle’s study. But I am really intrigued to see the connection between Jorge and TheO, and how it will affect the upcoming ceremonies at the Olympic Games.
